Liner Infantry Vietnam

In 1961, the nylon helmet was "Type Classified". This new helmet was built with layered nylon. The layered nylon improved the ballistic qualities of the helmet compared to the cotton canvas. The nylon fabric was impregnated with phenol-butyral on the inside and standard phenol on the outside of the helmet. The nylon helmets were produced with the new suspension system, which was also introduced on cotton canvas helmets in early 1964. The new suspension consisted of three adjustable straps made of canvas. The strap adjustment was made possible by the use of stamped bar buckles.
