Fitted with reproduction OD#3 chinstraps. Repainted in Olive Drab 7, the shade used by the U.S. Army from 1936 to 1944. The shell has a textured finish, achieved by adding cork to the paint

All of our helmet shells are made of steel and are surplus military equipment. Some are over 50 years old. They may show signs of use and aging due to storage. Although they are repainted and refurbished, some evidence of their past use remains visible.

The US navy experienced substantial growth in the years leading up to World War II, with the revival of battleship production in 1937, starting with the USS North Carolina (BB-55) ship. During the early years of the war, while the US was still neutral, they continued to expand their fleet by increasing the production of ships of various sizes.
