Shell

Original Austrian steel US WW2 infantry helmet shell, produced between 1975 and 1990. The original hoop joint is at the back, with movable attachment bridges. Repainted in matt OD (Olive Drab), then in red, the characteristic color of the Damage Control Fire Brigade units, it is equipped with reproductions of OD#3 khaki canvas infantry chinstraps, typical of helmetshells from the beginning of the war. The shell also features a front insignia indicating unit 22.

Liner Fiber

The helmet shell comes with an original Belgian fibre liner (ABL), remarkably well preserved for its age. It has been repainted, and the inner headband has been replaced with a faithful reproduction of Mon Casque M1.

"Battle Battered" USN Damage Control Fire Brigade

The Damage Control Fire Brigades on American warships were vital to the survival of their crews, fighting fires, repairing leaks and preventing shipwrecks in the heat of battle. Their intervention was decisive, notably during the attack on the USS Franklin in 1945, where after a Japanese strike, the crew managed to control the flames and save the aircraft carrier. These sailors, equipped with hoses and M1 helmets, worked in extreme conditions, often under enemy fire, to ensure the safety of the ship and crew, embodying a heroism that is essential in times of war.

  • "Battle Battered" USN Damage Control Fire Brigade painting

The paint used for this Battle Battered version is identical to our other helmets, with an Olive Drab base, the standard shade of the US Army between 1936 and 1944. It is topped with red, the colour of the Damage Control Fire Brigades, and completed with a front badge for an authentic finish.

  • "Battle Battered" USN Damage Control Fire Brigade texture

The helmet's cork texture has been crushed and distressed to faithfully reproduce the wear and tear of original US M1 helmets. The cork used on authentic models naturally degraded with time and use, creating a rough and marked surface. This texturing work mimics this wear and tear, providing a realistic aged appearance, perfect for evoking the combat conditions of period helmets and reinforcing the authenticity of the piece.

  • "Battle Battered" USN Damage Control Fire Brigade chinstrap

Reproduction of the early war raised bar chinstrap, patinated infantry version. It is artificially worn and soiled to give a worn and aged appearance to this 2nd Naval Beach Battalion helmet shell.
